Energy Oat Balls

Energy Oat Balls

If there’s one recipe my kids beg for on a regular basis, it’s these Energy Oat Balls. I swear, I can’t make a batch without someone sneaking a few before they even make it to the container. They’ve become a staple in our house, and are perfect for tossing into lunchboxes, handing out after school when hunger hits hard, or even grabbing for a quick, no-fuss breakfast on those chaotic mornings when we’re running out the door.

Made with simple pantry staples like oats, nut butter, and a touch of sweetness, they’re wholesome enough that I feel good about handing them out. They’re also tasty enough that my kids (and let’s be honest, me too) treat them like dessert. Plus, they’re no-bake, freezer-friendly, and endlessly customizable. Chocolate chips? Yes. Coconut? Absolutely. Chia seeds? Why not.

There’s something satisfying about watching a recipe this easy turn into a family favorite. Whether you need a make-ahead breakfast or a snack that won’t come back untouched in the lunchbox, these energy oat balls check every box. And trust me; once your crew tries them, you’ll be getting requests too.

I’ve also been known to eat one of these before a run, too. The options are endless.

Energy Oat Balls

2 cups gluten-free oats

1 cup nut butter (peanut, almond, or sunflower seed)

1 cup honey or maple syrup

1 scoop vanilla protein powder

1/3 cup mini chocolate chips

In a medium size mixing bowl or standing mixer, combine first 4 ingredients and beat at medium speed for about 1 minute or until well-combined. Add chocolate chips and mix again, just until incorporated. Using a mini cookie scoop, scoop out onto a parchment lined baking sheet. Use your hands to roll into smooth balls, then place in refrigerator to set for at least 30 minutes. Store in airtight container in refrigerator for up to 1 week (if they last that long).
