One of my favorite things to do is invite people over and feed them — even better if I get to teach them how to make the meal themselves. This recipe is one of my favorites from my cookbook series, and it was the obvious first choice when I started doing cooking demonstrations at home.
My favorite moment testing this one was watching a skeptical friend's husband, who claimed he didn't like chicken cordon bleu, go back for thirds. By the time he asked for a to-go plate, I think I'd made a believer out of him.
Ingredients
- 3 cups cooked chicken, shredded or cubed
- 1 cup diced ham
- 4 slices swiss cheese
- 1 (0.9 oz.) packet béarnaise sauce mix
- 1 (10 oz.) can undiluted cream of chicken soup
- 8 oz. sour cream
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 4 tablespoons butter, melted
Instructions
- 1Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
- 2Combine the soup, sour cream, and béarnaise mix in a large mixing bowl and whisk together well.
- 3Stir in the cooked chicken and ham, then spoon the mixture into an 8x8 inch baking dish.
- 4Layer the swiss cheese slices on top, followed by the breadcrumbs.
- 5Drizzle the melted butter over the breadcrumbs and bake for 30 minutes. Serve hot.
Tips
- Goes great served over mashed potatoes, pasta, or rice — I like to serve mine over bowtie pasta.
Storage & Reheating
Freezer instructions: double, triple, or quadruple the batch and prepare in freezer-safe foil containers or dishes. Cover and store in the freezer for up to 3 months. Thaw overnight before baking, or bake directly from frozen and add 30 minutes to the baking time.
