My husband spent ages trying to perfect an Old Fashioned at home — special syrup, the right glass, the giant ice cube, even good maraschino cherries. It looked classy watching it all come together, but the drink itself just isn't for me. I'm a sweet-cocktail girl through and through.

So I built something with the same good looks and none of the bitterness. Most bar versions of an Amaretto Sour lean heavy on the sour mix, but this one uses equal parts liquor and mix, which gives it a deeper color and a much better balance since Amaretto isn't an overly strong liquor to begin with.

It's become one of my top three go-to cocktails for a before-dinner sip, and that little maraschino cherry on top never hurts.

Ingredients

  • 2 oz. Amaretto liquor (my favorite is Disaronno)
  • 2 oz. sweet 'n sour mix
  • 1 maraschino cherry

Instructions

  1. 1Combine the Amaretto and sour mix in an Old Fashioned glass and stir.
  2. 2Add a large ice cube and garnish with a maraschino cherry.

Tips

  • To make this as a martini, shake the liquor and sour mix vigorously with ice in a shaker, then strain into a martini glass and garnish with a cherry.
